Head of Engineering

We are looking for an enthusiastic technology leader with the drive to realize innovative technical solutions to join our team.

As the Head of Engineering at Bizzy, you are responsible for leading and shaping our technological vision. You have the opportunity to lead a talented team of engineers and define the technological roadmap for our company.

This role reports directly to the CEO and is located in Ghent, with flexibility for working from home half of your time.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Develop and implement the technical strategy and vision, driving technical projects from concept to delivery.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development for the technical team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and emphasizing growth and collaboration.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies and innovative solutions. 
• Manage technical debt, security risk and other dependencies. 
• Facilitate effective collaboration between the engineering teams and other departments, ensuring seamless communication and coordination across projects and initiatives.
• Ensure quality assurance and compliance with technical standards.
• Uphold and drive technical excellence within the teams, ensuring adherence to industry best practices, security standards, and Bizzy’s quality benchmarks.
• Manage the technical budget.

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• Experience: Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in technical leadership, with a track record in various engineering positions. 
• Passion for Technology: Vision and strategic thinking to achieve technological goals. You've been there. You've written every piece of code possible and you know your way around our stack (Typescript, Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL & Python). You are a technical leader and you can guide a team of motivated engineers in best practices. You've set up cloud scaling, E2E testing and top-level code review practices in the past. 
• Passion for people: You are a natural leader, enjoying interactions with your team and uplifting them to their full potential. You have the ability to coach peers and help them to mature. 
• Entrepreneurial and Results-Driven Mindset: You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are driven to achieve results. Your keen attention to detail will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality product and driving our team to excel. You align the goals of your teams towards the company goals. 
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and business acumen, with the ability to translate insights into actionable plans.
• Social and Communicative: Strong communication and leadership skills. You have a proven track record of working with a product department in an agile framework. You know how to balance technical debt vs. features. 
• Flexible mindset: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy the typical start-up challenges. If you know, you know.
• Fluency in English: You are fluent in both English, both spoken and written.
